WARNING: Please do not rely on artificial navigation tools such as Sat Nav or Tom Tom or any such equivalent. DIRECTIONS FROM PISA, LIVORNO OR BOLOGNA

1.  From Livorno or Pisa take the A11 Autostrada to Firenze via Lucca.  If
direct from Pisa Airport in your rented car, note the sign Firenze just
after you leave the car park.  This leads onto a fast dual carriageway:  the
superstrade SGC via Empoli to Florence.  Join the A.1 Autostrada coming
south from Bologna towards Roma: continue south on the A1 Autostrada and
EXIT at Firenze Sud.  Go towards Florence until an exit indicated Bagno A
Ripoli.  Take that, turn right and follow signposts for Pontassieve and
Rosano.  (Now go to 4. below)

DIRECTIONS FROM FLORENCE

2.  Ask the car hire company to give you a map of central Florence and ask
them to direct you onto the inner circle road (the Circonvallazione) going
East (clockwise) until you reach the Arno river. The circonvallazione
becomes one way close to the river. Follow this until parallel with the
river on your right and go straight on Lungarno del Tempio (resisting the
urge to cross the first bridge to your right). Proceed east on Lungarno del
Tempio until reaching the next bridge on your right and cross this (Ponte
Verrazzano). There is a small circle on the other side which one, in effect,
goes straight over and follow this main street - Viale Giannotti becomes
Viale Europa and out into the country through the outskirts of Florence
following signs for Bagno a Ripoli and A1 Roma. Proceed under the Autostrada
entrance road (do NOT go onto it) following signs for Bagno a Ripoli and now
Pontassieve and Rosano (Now go to 5. below)

DIRECTIONS FORM FLORENCE AIRPORT

3.  As you exit the airport car park, turn right at the lights and go onto
the A11 Autostrada access road (signed for Lucca).  Then follow the sign
posts for A1 Autostrada direction to ROMA.  Go south on the A1 and look for
exit for Firenze Sud (this will be the third exit - after passing Firenze
Signa and Firenze Certosa)  Go off this and head for Firenze.  (Now go to 4.
below)

4. Do not take the first exit after leaving the toll booths.  Proceed along
the main access road until you will see an exit signed for Bagno a Ripoli a
few hundred yards.  Take that, turn right off the exit ramp and follow signs
for Pontassieve and Rosano.

5. Follow this road for a distance of about 12 kilometres.  Cross the Arno
River to a large roundabout, being the start of the Pontassieve by-pass.
Turn right onto the by-pass, sign posted Forli-Arezzo-Consuma. Take the
second exit signposted Pelago and Consuma which leads to a T-junction with
the S69.  Turn right onto it and, then, after 400 metres, turn left up the
hill on the S70 signposted Consuma, Poppi and Bibbiena.

6.  Follow the S70, climbing up through Palaie, take the right turn to Pelago
and go through our small local town following signposts for Tosi and
Vallombrosa (in Pelago centre follow road to left between church and Banca
Toscana and not straight down into pretty central piazza)  Having left
Pelago, follow the road for about 2.5 kms until passing the sign saying
Paterno.  After this sign, turn left at sign for Ristonchi.

7.  After about half a mile or so take the left hand fork staying on the
ashpalt and continue to Ristonchi. The asphalt road finishs at a small
bridge and then the road becomes a concrete road.  Follow the signs to
Ristonchi (about 1 km from the small bridge).

Staying on the concrete road, drive through Ristonchi (which is an 11th
century tower castle, houses and church) until the concrete section ends
opposite an 18th century villa with a junction to the right. Take this
turning to the right and La Doccia is about 500 metres on the right up this
unpaved lane passing a holy cross and a turning left which should be
ignored.

8. WHEN YOU ARRIVE, please park your car in the little car park next to the
two cottages and walk down to La Doccia using the entrance next to the
number 19.  Also, please be aware of our young labrador, who is still being
trained.

DIRECTIONS FROM ROMA AND THE SOUTH

9.  Take the Autrostrada A1 to the Incisa exit and then follow directions
for Pontassieve (S69)  Keep on this road until reaching the village of
Carbonile which is just north of the small town of Rignano sull'Arno.  As
you enter the village take the very first sharp right hand turn (virtually
back on yourself) sign posted Paterno and go to Paterno and past a number of
houses which brings you to an uneven sign posted crossroads (Pelago on the
left and Tosi on the right and Ristonchi straight over up a slope.) Go over
following sign to Ristonchi.

Take this
turning to the right and La Doccia is about 500 metres on the right up this
unpaved lane passing a holy cross and a turning left which should be
ignored.

When you arrive, please park your car in the little car park next to the
two cottages and walk down to La Doccia using the entrance next to the
number 19.  Also, please be aware of our young labrador, who is still being
trained.

If you miss the Carbonile turn, fear not, press on towards Pontassieve and take the first main turning to the right which is the S70 see - 6 above and follow onto 7.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE SIENA AREA

10.  From Siena take either the superstrada north towards Firenze and follow
this until it joins the A1 Autostrade at Firenze Certosa.  Go on to the A1
following directions to Roma and leave the Autostrada at Firenze Sud (the
next exit)  Follow directions as above from 4. OR take the scenic route via
S408 from Siena via Gaiole-in-Chianti to the S69 then to Incisa and then as
9. above.

11. Directions from Forli (this is from the airport to which Easyjet and
others sometimes go - it is recommended that you make sure your car hire
company know you are flying to here and not to Bologna main airport).

There are two ways to us; either via the mountains or by autostrada via
Bologna.

Via the mountains: - Very pretty drive on the S67. Continue on this until
Pontassieve. Then follow signs for Consuma onto the S70 and then as per
directions in paragrpahs 6,7 and 8 above.

Via Bologna: Go onto the A14 and continue to the junction with the A1
towards Roma and Firenze and then follow our instructions from paragraph 1
above.
